Varne 850

The Varne 850 is a well proven design with offshore capability and good manners.  This lightly used example was fitted out by a previous owner as a rugged, easily handled cruising yacht capable of extended passage making and ocean voyaging.  The present owner bought her with the intention of entering a Jester Challenge and equipped her suitably for singlehanded ocean sailing, but she is now for sale due to a change in circumstances.  She has a Chinese Lugsail (Junk rig) - probably the most easily handled, reliable and economical sail plan ever devised - and is fitted with windvane self steering.

Viewing by appointment through our Suffolk Office 01473 659 681.

Only lightly used since being launched in 1999 (hull and deck mouldings date from the early 1980s) the present owner has equipped the boat

The accommodation offer up to four berths in a light and airy open plan cabin.  There is standing headroom aft by the chart table and galley, reducing towards the forepeak.  The fit out is robust and practical with a wealth of handholds and sensible sea berths, and has a pleasing ambience.  In the forepeak there is a marine toilet with stowage forward.  In saloon, two settee berths.  Chart table to port with double quarter berth behind and galley opposite.  Origo two burner gimballed spirit hob.  Twin bucket sinks with manually pumped water supply.  50 litre freshwater capacity. A single child's quarter berth to starboard is now used as a stowage area.  Engine access is very good.
