Huckins Fairform Flyer - New arrival

Frank Pembroke Huckins is a legendary innovator and builder of high performance yachts in Jacksonville Florida. The distinctive design is often attributed to the style of the WWII PT Boats built primarily as prototypes by Huckins Yacht Corp. Most PT's were actually built in other yards with the design principles developed by Huckins. This model, the 40' Sportsman Fairform Flyer has the unique "Quadraconic Hull". The double diagonal planking is incredibly lightweight & strong. The mahogany planking has been saturated with epoxy resin and covered in E-glass and more epoxy resin. The boat has been painted with Awlgrip polyurethane paint. Innovative design and modern new generation diesel power make MERCURY an impressive and reliable classic.

Accommodations include an oversized double berth forward and a galley down. The head has a heated towel rack and stainless steel shower pan. The helm console is enclosed with canvas, and is equipped  all the essential electronics for long distance cruising. A flying bridge, is accessed by ladder from a large cockpit. A folding radar mast allows for covered moorage with ease.

Originally powered with gas engines, this Sportsman, as one of only 12 built, and the only one on the west coast, has been repowered in 2005 with Yanmar 4 cylinder, 240 hp. diesels for reliability, speed and economy. All tanks are original manufactured out of high grade Monel stainless steel. The performance by design mounts the rudders outboard of the transom and moves the propellers back just forward of the transom. A feature duplicated in boat construction for decades to follow.
