Sparkman & Stephens 48 Ft Yawl

CARILLON could be seen as an opportunity. Built of aluminium she has spent more than half her life stored under cover ashore and anyway used sparingly. Her inventory is basic and her price sensible but it is impossible to ignore her pedigree. She was modified by her builder Derecktor to designs by S&S to divide the keel and rudder configuration and convert the boat to a yawl rig. It was Olin Stephens himself who considered his designs from this period as the ultimate for offshore work. CARILLON might present herself as a very interesting option for a sailor with extended cruising in mind.

Although she will celebrate her fiftieth year in 2014, she can really be thought of as a 50 year old boat that has been used for only 20.  The modern Perkins 4.108 installed in 1988 has racked up only 120 hours.  The 2011 refit put in Odyssey batteries, a Blue sea electrical panel and Raymarine self - steering  along with new booms and Profurl complete the picture of a much more recent boat with a hull still in good condition.  Two yachts of this design 1757; ALPHA and BOHEMIA were built in aluminium on the West Coast by Stevens marine - of these, ALPHA is still based at St Francis yacht club and BOHEMIA is still sailing and participated in the Olin Stephens Regatta in 2008.
