Tartan 37 Sloop - Wonderful Family Cruiser
OWNERS NEED AND WANT HER SOLD. BRING OFFERS. NOW IS THE TIME! MAJOR PRICE REDUCTION ON THIS CLASSIC SPARKMAN STEVENS DESIGN! If you want to own a sailing vessel with style, substance, and a great community, you are barking up the right path. The Tartan 37 is a serious cult boat. No, we don't mean that she is obscure, old world traditional sailing vessel like the BCCs we so proudly support. No. The Tartan 37 is a classic from the drawing board of Sparkman & Stevens. She is a gorgeous, all purpose, and great sailing boat for the Chesapeake Bay or lots of other wonderful places. There are 450 of them in all corners of the US and a few that have ventured far. Our offering, named Vision Quest, is a 1978 vessel and she’s had two owners. Her first family had her for 25 years and raised their boys racing around the buoys. Her current owner has also raised his family cruising on the Bay for years. They had aspirations of cruising and upgraded the boat for a Delmarva Circumnavigation and then they even made an excursion to Key West! They have enjoyed owning and sailing her and she is a lovely boat after all the family years. The kids are all grown up now and it is time for find another family for Vision Quest! So, if you want a community, a family, a sense of pride of ownership, races, and rendezvous, you’ll really like this world of the Tartan 37. A great boat for a family. Go see the community at the Tartan Sailing Association. And on the Chesapeake, it is the boat to have! She’ll race round the buoys with the best of them. She’s generous and forgiving to the novice and at the same time she’s a sail animal with a skilled captain. She’s an all round great performer. When Sparkman & Stevens took up the challenge of building a truly great production boat and teamed up with boat builder Tartan Marine, who knew that they would succeed in producing a classic. They succeeded! The Tartan 37 will win approval for good, stable, predictable, sailing performance on all points of sail. The shoal draft centerboard design is well suited to a cruising boat on the East Coast, the Bahamas, and in the Chesapeake Bay. That’s what she does so well. She’s not an ocean racer, but you can’t deny that Steve Pettingill set a record in the Port Huron to Mackinac Island Single-handed Race in his Tartan 37 Ambergris, a deep draft fin-keel Tartan 37. The majority of the 37's, like our offering, “Vision Quest” are centerboard, shoal draft designs drawing just 4'-2" with the board up. This is nearly the perfect draft for a boat of this size intended for cruising the Chesapeake Bay and tributaries. She’s no light weight either. With a displacement of 15,500 pounds and a displacement/length ratio is 220. Light enough to sail the light winds of the Chesapeake in summer, and heavy enough that you can feel confident in coastal waters. Lots of Tartan 37s have ventured far like the one we raced to Bermuda. But then again, we like to say it is 90% skipper and 10% boat. Wherever you sail this boat you will love her just like her two families have. Vision Quest has had the standing rigging replaced along with the halyards and she has upgraded Raymarine C-80 Radar and Plotter, new Autopilot, and M302 VHF with DSC. She is complete with dinghy and outboard. Now you can own a beautiful classic S&S design that you will love and be proud to own. Call today and get ready to take the helm! ACCOODATIONS As you enter the companionway you will find that the interior is traditional and welcoming. Teak veneer and trim is used throughout the boat and white formica lines the ceiling overhead. The overall quality of the wood work and joinery is very good. With the almost 12 feet of beam the interior is larger than you would expect. To port of the companionway steps is the sit down nav station and the cozy quarter berth which gets even larger when the nav seat is converted into more berth space. To starboard of the companionway steps is the spacious U-shaped galley. Moving forward is the salon with a strait settee to starboard that pulls out to make a larger single berth and has a pilot berth above and outboard. On the port side of the salon is the L-shaped settee and drop down folding table. Storage cabinets and shelves are outboard of each settee. Forward of the salon to port is the very spacious head with standard marine toilet, stainless sink, teak medicine cabinet, lots of storage outboard, a shower head that stows away and a shower track with curtain. All the way forward the V-berth cabin has a privacy door into the head, plenty of maneuvering room, and changing seat, hanging storage, drawers and cabinets.
