ROWENA

ROWENA is a full-keel version of the highly regarded THUNDERHEAD, which was designed by Phil Rhodes. She was very well built by the Lester Stone yard in Alameda, California, and an article about Lester Stone appears in WoodenBoat No. 109, page 60. ROWENA's builder commented that "this is one of the best-built wooden boats in California." ROWENA is well known on the West Coast and has proven to be an excellent cruising boat with the kind of performance one would expect from the design board of Phil Rhodes. She currently has over 100,000 offshore hours under her keel.  We feel she can be highly recommended and will be pleased to arrange inspections.

Traditional Carvel Honduras mahogany planking fastened to oak frames and backbone with bronze fasteners.  Fir deadwood and 13,000 lb. external lead ballast.  Oak floor timbers and teak decking over plywood (new in 1997).  Large, self-bailing cockpit has the helm raised for greater visibility and is recessed for the guests to sit comfortably on a bridge deck under a hard dodger. Teak and mahogany trunk cabins.  The interior is painted white with vanished teak trim and a teak and holly sole.  The hull is white and the decking is natural.
