Tamara X had to be bigger and more comfortable to allow some cruising , fast when racing , and very ,very nice .The request drove Christian Jensen to design a boat very similar to a 10 MR , but suitable also for cruising for the presence of an engine and of a greater comfort. The charisma and the influence of Hansen , at the time commodore of the KNS, the Royal Norwegian Yacht Club, convinced 4 other yachtsmen to order to Jensen the construction of their new boats out of the same drawings. The 5 boats where all rated in the 10 M class and they have been renewn as the Norwegian gentlemen 10 metres racers . Kipawa, built for C.B. Thorne Fredrikstad was registered under Canadian Flag . Long time after her construction, in april 2003 Kipawa reached the Tecnomar boatyard in Fiumicino, Italy for a thorough restoration and reconstruction of great part of her structures. The operations lasted exactly 3 years as she was launched on april 3rd 2006 The works: All the planking has been changed , a great part of the wooden frames have been replaced by new steam bent ash frames. Her construction, as per the Lloyd’s register rules for the metric classes has a composite structure: alternate wooden and steel frames and floors. The steel structures where generally in good state and few of them have been replaced. The beautiful teak deck is new and the accommodations have been rebuilt following the original drawing that the historical research provided among the very few drawings of Jensen left after a fire. On the yacht, deeply modified during her life very few traces of her original layout was left. The mast was built in Silver Spruce by Lavazza, the very best mast builder in Italy for metric classes . In march 2007 Kipawa receivedthe Yacht Digest Award 2006 in Venezia for the best restoration of the year . Since her return to the sea , Kipawa took part to many races in Italian and Mediterranean classic yachts meetings and she is one of the fastest yachts and collected many victories .
