The Dervaig 38 was originally designed by Viking Marine as a life boat/ launch for the Cunard liners, CARMANIA and FRANCONIA. While serving mainly as a lifeboat, they were also used as a launch for their passengers, and thus they were designed to cope with rough conditions and rough use. The Dervaig 38 is not a conversion of old life boats but is a trawler yacht designed by Maitland Murray on the hull produced by Viking Marine of Gosport
