Makoa Kai Hele was built in Vancouver Canada at the Samson Ship yard and splashed in 1991. She was built by professionals that specialize in Ferro Boat construction to the highest standards using a stainless steel superstructure and strong monel mesh to shape the hull. The tensile strength of Ferro is on the average of 5,340 lbs/sq in, and a compressive strength of 12,000 lbs/sqin following steam curing. A great characteristic of Ferro construction is that it gains strength as it ages.

Ferro Boats do not develop blisters like fiberglass, rust like steel boats, or dry rot like wood boats. Ferro boats are not overly heavy in construction and are comparable to a steel hull in weight (without all the problems). Overall a properly built Ferro boat like Makoa Kai Hele will be around longer than any Fiberglass /Steel/ Wood boat, there are still some in France that were built before 1855 and still afloat.
