Mackenzie Barge & Derrick Glen Class Tug - New arrival

The Union Jack is a fully restored 1941 Ex Tug built by McKenzie Barge & Derrick for the Union Towing Co. of Vancouver, BC. When Union Towing became Straits Towing the name was changed from the Union Jack to Burnaby Straits but restored back to Union Jack in 1979. The union Jack was the last tug designed by Arthur Moscrop who also designed the Ivanhoe and the Master. The union Jacks design was taken by the Canadian Navy to build 3 wooden Glen Class tugs; Glen Holm, Glen Devon and Glendon. All 3 of which are still afloat.

The Union Jack was restored and subsequently employed in the BC Coastal Excursion and Cruise trade after she was retired from Towing until 2010 when she was sold as a private yacht. She was certified to carry up to 12 berthed passengers and it is still possible to have her recertified again. The Union Jack is in fantastic condition and the present owner has made several equipment changes to her and has maintained her as she was for so many years.
