Jonmeri 40

$10,000 price reduction February 2015! ONNETAR is ready for cruising this summer!

Just because Jonmeri isn’t a household name in North America doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be. ONNETAR is an outstanding example of a long line of high quality Finnish yachts. Her construction details are impeccable - from her beautifully constructed teak interior to outstanding fiberglass and gelcoat work, she shines with pride in craftsmanship. Few boatbuilders set out for such quality and even fewer actually achieve it. The fact that she was commissioned by her designer Jorma Nyman doesn’t hurt either.

ONNETAR is a fantastic all around vessel – capable of crossing oceans, daysailing on an August afternoon and competing in a casual race. Her gracefull hull with moderate overhangs and hull sections, a fin keel and spade rudder gives her a good turn of speed without sacrificing seakeeping abilities. Her double cockpit deck layout provides the best of both worlds – lots of on deck space for relaxation and a well protected aft cockpit. And unlike many of her peers, she features companionways that access the interior from both cockpits – eliminating a serious safety concern of crossing a long bridgedeck in a seaway. This configuration does reap benefits below deck, allowing standing headroom in the aft stateroom and a large passageway style galley. Her interior feels spacious, but a knowledgeable sailor will note that a good handhold is never too far way. Her salon features a comfortable U-shaped dinette with fixed table. Forward, there is a Pullman style double berth and lots of storage space. A single large head compartment completes her elegant but no nonsense layout.

From her teak joinery to fiberglass work, ONNETAR’S construction details are impeccable. Her interior is finely finished in beautiful teak with a teak and holly sole and vinyl headliner. The entire interior of her hull is coated in gelcoat, providing a smooth and easy to clean hull surface. Look in the back of any locker and one is greeted with expertly laid fiberglass tabbing between the hull and all bulkheads and furniture. The result is a strong and stiff structure that is equally practical. Storage space is maximized and future maintenance is made as simple as possible. There are very few spaces where parts of her hull are hidden from view and those that are may be easily accessed by removing screwed on panels and battens.

ONNETAR’S layout is arranged in a typical double cockpit cruiser/racer layout, although she stands out from many of her peers with companionways to reach the interior from both cockpits. She will sleep six in two quarterberths aft, salon settees and master cabin Pullman berth.

Starting forward is ONNETAR’S master stateroom.  There is a Pullman style berth to starboard with open storage space below the berth and a sail storage bin along the port hull side. Aft and to port is a large hanging locker. Forward of the berth is an open sail storage area separated by a bulkhead with cutout. A large hatch in the foredeck provides ventilation.

Next aft is the main salon, with a large U-shaped settee to starboard and a straight settee to port. Her settees are upholstered in tasteful blue fabric. At centerline is a fixed table with two large leaves that will easily seat a large group for dinner or drinks. There is storage outboard of the settee seatbacks and bookshelves and large lockers above and outboard along the hull side. Handrails run along the cabin side the length of the space.

The head is aft and to starboard of the salon. The space is a single large compartment with an integral shower. There is a molded fiberglass pan in the sole – a teak grate covers the shower sump. The head is located aft, facing forward. Along the starboard outboard side is a long counter with large molded sink. There are large lockers above and below the counter. An opening port provides ventilation.

The galley is along the port side passageway aft of the salon. The counter is L-shaped with a molded double stainless sink at the forward inboard end. Inboard of the sink is a top loading dry storage locker. Outboard along the hull side is a large open storage space with sliding door lockers above. Moving aft, there is a three burner stove/oven with stainless steel crash bar. There is a small locker below the stove. Aft of the stove is a top loading fridge compartment with a locker outboard and microwave above. There is a series of smaller drawers and lockers aft of the microwave above the counter. A large auxiliary counter folds against the bulkhead on the inboard side of the passageway. An opening port or Dorade vent provides galley ventilation. There is a front loading auxiliary fridge opposite the galley on the starboard side of the salon.

The aft stateroom features two quarterberths and doubles as a nav station space. The proximity to the aft companionway makes this an excellent arrangement for offshore sailing. The nav station is located at the forward end of the space with good visibility from the cockpit. The companionway stairs fold away and a nav station seat drops down. The main electrical panel is located above the nav station. There are quarterberths to port and starboard with large lockers outboard at the forward end of each berth. Opening cabin side ports and the companionway hatch provide excellent ventilation.
