Laurent Giles 60 Ft Bermudan Cutter

PAZIENZA designed by Laurent Giles was built by Cantiere Navale V. Beltrami in Genoa in 1956. In his design philosophy Laurent Giles considered a yacht should have ‘the utmost docility and sureness of manoeuvring at sea, in good or bad weather”. Thus his boats were designed to maintain a steady course with minimal action by the helmsman, yet to respond instantly to the helm if the need arose. He identified PAZIENZA as a “good example of a comfortable shorthanded cruising boat with a first class performance under power yet able to take part successfully in ocean races’. Yachting World in 1957, described her as “a large cutter into which a great deal of thought has been given to comfort and convenience’.

Laurent Giles seemed to achieve a seamless transition between traditional and modern styling - it is not surprising that PAZIENZA with her handsome sheers and understated English good looks was down to the last two nominees for the most beautiful boat in France for 2010 -which is also an indication of her current impressive condition.

HISTORY

Pazienza was first registered in British waters (Guernsey) in the early 1980s. Little is known of her history from1956 to that time but it is believed she remained in the ownership of the family who had originally commissioned her. There have been 6 owners since then including her current owners.

In 2004 her present owner looking for a boat to cross the Atlantic, found Pazienza, no stranger to Atlantic crossings her previous owners had taken her to the Caribbean in 2002 and back in 2003, then to sell.

Since then she has crossed the Atlantic twice, in 2005 in the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers and again in 2008 in the Transat Classique Lagasse. On both occasions Pazienza has proved an extremely sea worthy boat, taking care of all those who sail her.
