Norman Wright 80

The John Oxley was designed and built by Norman Wright of Queensland, Australia, the renowned designer and builder of high quality motor vessels. The John Oxley and the equally renowned sister ship Matthew Flinders were successfully used as pilot boats by QLD Ports and proved themselves in all types of extreme sea conditions. This boat was then upgraded into a luxury displacement cruiser and has roamed the seas. The quality build and conservative styling  of this boat will always stand the test of time.

The saloon is a spacious open plan area that is well-designed, refined and  functional.  The large picture windows in the saloon and bridge make the yacht light and bright with outstanding all round vision.  In the saloon is a bar area that and a “L” stainless steel open galley with all appliances as well as a day head. At the front of the saloon is a full width pilothouse with high bench lounge. At the stern is a large teak entertaining area that can be enclosed with clear panels to create a very pleasant sheltered dining experience with up to 12 seated guests.

The accommodation and bathrooms are on the lower level. At the rear of the saloon, stairs descend to a full width spacious master cabin with en suite bathroom and lounge area. There are stairs descending behind the pilothouse to the forward accommodation. In the bow there is a double berth on the port side and further down the corridor there is another double berth cabin to the starboard and a twin-berthed cabin to port.  A shower bathroom is available to the three cabins.

The John Oxley as an extended displacement cruising vessel with all the controls and instrumentation required for a safe and comfortable passage in the bridge and the sedan bridge on the upstairs deck. The Naiad 254 stabilizers provide the stability for effortless cruising.

The sedan bridge has fully duplicated instrumentation make this the ideal position from which to steer the boat  in good weather. There is extensive room for guests to laze on an open lounge sunbaking area or relax in the covered area.

The John Oxley is powered by twin 12 cylinder Cummins KTA 550 hp diesels allowing it to cruise all day at 10-12 knots, with a top speed of 17 knots. The engines were de-rated from 880hp. There are two generators with a new one installed only a few months ago.

The displacement, great design and powerful efficient engines work together to provide a classic boat with good sea worthiness, manoeuvrability, safety and stability in all conditions. The boat can easily be handled by two persons. This classic styling will remain contemporary for decades to come.

The key features are:
