33' Herreshoff Buzzard's Bay 25

This brand new, beautifully built cold molded boat was built in Ridgefield, WA - by the talented builder Pete Thomson.

She is Marconi rigged, and comes with a custom built trailer.

This design is celebrating it's 100th Anniversary this year.

The Buzzards Bay 25 was originally designed by Nathanael Herreshoff for the Beverly Yacht Club of Marion, Massachusetts, in 1914. Five boats were built, plank on frame. In the 1980s a resurgence of the design began with 17 additional boats built by 2004. (See Wooden Boat Magazine, issue 172, June 2003).

 This replication of the design was built by Peter Thomsen of Ridgefield, Washington.  Peter began by shaping and assembling an African mahogany backbone and cutting out molds of the hull's cross section every 20".  For the skin, he used the strip-planked method he had perfected during his career as a shipwright.

 He then used old growth vertical grain Douglas fir that was milled to 3/4" x 1-1/2" strips in 24' lengths.  Each strip was glued to the next with West System epoxy and fastened in place with #10 bronze ring shank nails.  Within six weeks, the bare hull was completed.  The hull was then faired, followed by the application of the outer skins - two diagonal layers of 1/8" clear fir, which were fastened with epoxy and covered with two layers of 6 oz. fiberglass cloth.

 The centerboard case, cockpit seats and coaming were built from matching mahogany planks cut from a single large timber.
