Peter Spronk, a notable creator of fast and elegant catamarans, designed and built  Ikhaya. He built his boats to be capable of sailing the world over, but he most loved imagining them racing through the waters of the West Indies, where he spent the latter decades of his life. For over forty years, Peter and his wife Myrna built their reputations as legendary pioneers in the multihull world. When you step aboard  Ikhaya, it is easy to understand why.
She is  constructed entirely of Bruynzeel marine-grade mahogany plywood, cold-molded, bonded and stabilized using WEST System epoxies. This costly boat-building technique, only used on large, one-off custom yachts, produces a much stronger, lighter craft than the conventional glass/polyester layups typical of factory production boats. The hulls are of lapstrake (clinker-built) construction, for both strength and beauty. Their interiors, in keeping with Peter Spronk’s “less-is-more” design philosophy, are bright, airy, uncluttered and functional, while at the same time she provides ample creature comforts and amenities.
