Brown Downeast Lobster Yacht
MAYPEARL is a classic wooden down east style power boat with a single diesel engine. The vessel was built by J.O. Brown’s boat Yard on the island of North Haven, Maine. This yard was known for building commercial lobster boats and this vessel was Jim Brown’s personal boat used for recreation only. Maypearl has white topsides, red boot stripe and a green bottom. The house is white with gray tops, the weather deck is white, and the cockpit deck is gray. The wheelhouse is open to the cockpit with a portside helm and raised engine box. The cuddy cabin is entered on the The hull is carvel planked Cedar over 1 ½” x 2 1/8” steam bent Oak frames set at 10-12” centers. The planks are fastened with bronze clinch nails. The stem, keel, stern post and horn timber are sawn oak. There are sawn oak floor frames with bronze bolts through the keel. The framing is stiffened with bilge clamps, shear clamps and ceiling strip planking. The deck is constructed of cedar strip planks with a fiberglass skin and 1 ¾” x 2” oak beams set at 16” on center. The cockpit is painted cedar planking over sawn spruce beams. The beams are supported with full height floor frames extensions. With a little work this classic boat could be restored to it's original beauty. A December 2013 survey is available for more detail.
