Herreshoff Custom Motor Launch

"Motivated seller says bring me an offer!!!"

(LOCATION: Groveland MA) To call this custom Herreshoff Motor Launch rare piece of marine history would be an understatement. This is a one-off creation of marine legends, designer L. Francis Herreshoff, and builder Luders Marine. Built of mahogany, this 47’ motor launch began life in 1950 as an open cockpit, twin screw launch, with two cuddy cabins. Over the years she evolved including a 1979-1992 restoration that replaced almost all of the mahogany and added epoxy to insure durability. Much of the cockpit has been enclosed, features added, and she now has the comforts of home.

On deck we have 47’ of deck space beginning up front with a bow pulpit with tall rail, anchor, and windlass and ending aft with a canoe stern. In between we have lots of deck space with all original hardware, an enclosed cabin, and open cockpit with canvas enclosure. A ship’s wheel, compass, and engine controls are all that’s needed to operate this vessel along with a VHF radio, a concession to modern times.

Below we have double berths at the extreme ends of the vessel. In between there are two large hanging lockers, galley, u-shaped dinette, and an enclosed head with mirrored vanity and shower. Finished in mahogany with parquet sole there is abundant storage with everything easily accessible. Details include ship’s clock, overhead rod racks, and stained glass ports. The galley has mahogany cabinets, sink, range, and refrigerator. There’s a Dickerson wood/coal burning stove for chilly days and nights.

Freelance is powered by a Westerbeke W70 FWC diesel engine for dependable and economical operation. A Honeywell generator provides on-board electrical power. This one of a kind motor launch is available for someone who understands and appreciates unique vessels. Call now for more information on this 1950 Herreshoff Motor Launch.
