During a decade-long production history Maxum built its reputation
by delivering affordable, well-styled boats to an entry-level,
budget-minded public. The Maxum 3100 SE (called the 3100 SCR
in 2002) fit into this mold nicely—a modern sterndrive cruiser with
a midcabin interior and a very competitive price. She’s built on a
solid fiberglass, modified-V hull with moderate beam and reverse
chines to dampen spray. Belowdecks, privacy curtains separate the
fore and aft sleeping areas from the main cabin. Between them is
an expansive salon with a semicircular lounge/dinette (which converts
to a double berth) to starboard, an enclosed head with sink
and shower, and a full galley to port with built in coffee maker and abundant storage. There
is AC/Heat and six opening ports for ventilation, and the absence of any interior
bulkheads makes for a very open floorplan. The cockpit has a
doublewide helm seat, an L-shaped lounge opposite, and U-shaped
seating aft complemented by a sink, ice maker and cooler space. An opening
windshield provides access to the foredeck with its twin sun pads.
A capable performer, twin 260hp MerCruiser sterndrives cruise the
3100 SE in the mid 20s and reach 33–34 knots top.
