This large schooner is one of John Alden ‘s more magnificent yachts , combining size and beuty with strength , comfort, speed and sea kindliness. Designed in 1929 she was launched by the Electric Boat Company of New London, Connecticut ( a builder of submarines for the U.S. Navy ) in april 1931. Puritan hull was built in steel with the same construction method developed for deep diving submarines to withstand extreme water pressure.
