Maxim 380 - New arrival

The Maxim 380 is the most dramatic looking catamaran on the market today. Those looks combined with her build quality, performance and accommodation were the reasons SHE WAS BUILT in 2005. After seeing the photos, or seeing her for real, you might feel the same – after all she has always drawn admiring looks and appreciative comments wherever she has gone.

She was built in Maxim’s Durban factory during 2004. After the owner researching the other South African and French alternatives a Maxim was his first choice. The Maxim was the only CE certified cat from the South African yards and the French alternative with decent build quality was the Benetau which looked like a Routemaster bus (and sailed rather like one).

The Maxim 380 was launched at the end of February 2005. She spent several weeks in a Durban marina while the yard completed the finishing touches. there is an extension to the moulding at the front of the saloon so that the microwave has its own dedicated space and the owner commissioned the design for the ‘rolling wave’ blue vinyl stripes to the hulls and ordered the cockpit enclosures. When the conditions were right he then took her to Cape Town via East London and Port Elizabeth as part of the ‘shake down’ and the first leg of the trip back to the UK.

Adrenalyn has left the Harbour on 4 occasions. Firstly to have some minor gelcoat repairs carried out under warranty. Secondly, to be antifouled and anodes replaced while dried out. Thirdly, to be hauled out, antifouled and anodes replaced . Fourthly to venture to the mediterranean where she is based now.

Despite the lack of use (a bonus for you though) I am convinced that the Maxim 380 is the best compromise between build quality, performance, accommodation and looks of any catamaran on the used market. Other cats may have more internal space at the expense of looks. Others may have slightly higher build quality but at a higher price. Yet others may have superior performance although at the cost of comfort.
